DISTANT LANGUAGES, REAL AND IMAGINED
—> Break Out Room 5 <—
Pierre Joris and Jerome Rothenberg will engage in a big time presentation/performance of the many ways in which poets & artists have drawn from distant languages & traditions or have invented or pretended to invent new languages so as to escape the tyranny of the old. Along with their own performance of a range of poetic & ethnopoetic works, there will be a mining of audio & visual archives, to bring into the mix the actual voices & visions of artists such as Schwitters, Artaud, Schwerner, Cobbing, Chopin, & assorted glossolaliacs & chanters from the centers & margins of our world.
