Henry Roth (1906-1995)
Henry Roth, the author of Call it Sleep and 5 other books, would have been 100 today. I have been searching unsuccessfully for my copy of that novel — like the Vaneigem it is no doubt in a box in storage waiting for me to build more shelves.
I had wanted to reprint this morning the description of the Statue of Liberty as seen from the immigrants’ ship on which the young Henry Roth and his family approach the shores of these United States for the first time. If anyone has that descrption handy, please post it in the response box or email it to me & I’ll post it.
