Internet Map World connection density

The Internet has made the world a global space – not. Above, Chris Harrison’s Internet Density world map, which has an uncanny resemblance to an 18th or 19th century European (early- to full-colonial) world map, though color reversed, i.e. the famous “white” (i.e. unexplored, unconquered) spaces of those old maps are here rendered in black, internet-unenlightened. With Africa clearly remaining the “dark continent.” Below, another of Harrison’s maps, this one representing World City-to-City connections:
