Today the news from the\u00a0New Orleans poetry community\u00a0is very, very bad.<\/div>\n
Poet BILL LAVENDER, director of University of New Orleans\u00a0Press\u00a0has been SACKED by the administrators at\u00a0University of New Orleans.<\/div>\n
Bill Lavender not only resurrected\u00a0UNO Press, but under\u00a0Bill’s\u00a0stewardship\u00a0these past\u00a0four years,\u00a0UNO press has published an astounding 80+ excellent books nationally and internationally; and the press is by no means strapped for funding. UNO Press is\u00a0currently regarded\u00a0as one of the most prestigious and\u00a0\u00a0financially self-sustainable university presses\u00a0in\u00a0all of the\u00a0United States.<\/div>\n
Be assured, this so-called\u00a0“elimination” is purely POLITICALLY motivated, not otherwise.<\/div>\n
Dean\u00a0Susan Krantz\u00a0of the University of New Orleans\u00a0informed Bill Lavender of his “elimination” recently via email while Bill was still\u00a0in Scotland fulfilling his duties as Director of UNO’s Abroad Program.<\/div>\n
IN THE NAME OF POETRY, please…<\/div>\n
Stand with US!<\/div>\n
SPEAK out!<\/div>\n
Let them\u00a0hear your\u00a0VOICE\u00a0loud and clear!<\/div>\n
Pressure is mounting from all sectors near and far\u00a0to\u00a0EXPOSE the corruption and unethical conduct at the University of New Orleans at the very highest levels!<\/div>\n
Bill Lavender’s so-called\u00a0“ELIMINATION”\u00a0\u00a0is a devastating blow which will be felt deeply by\u00a0poetry communities\u00a0everywhere– from New Orleans to\u00a0New York to\u00a0California to\u00a0Brazil to\u00a0Zimbabwe–and everywhere in between!<\/div>\n
Let\u00a0higher ed\u00a0charlatans\u00a0know you\u00a0DETEST\u00a0of their actions!<\/div>\n
INFORM\u00a0fatcat administrators\u00a0that their professed\u00a0soulessness\u00a0toward POETRY is indeed a\u00a0high act of\u00a0treason to the art we LOVE!<\/div>\n
They must answer\u00a0for this singular\u00a0INJUSTICE to\u00a0POETRY and to poet Bill Lavender!<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
We need\u00a0every nano\u00a0of\u00a0LOVE and\u00a0SUPPORT you can give!<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
YOUR voice will be LEGION!<\/div>\n
TURNABOUT!<\/div>\n
