\"\"<\/a>Finally have internet in the mountains of the Pyrenees (the village of \u00a0Bourg d’Oueil, to be precise) & can try to get back to some normalcy of blogging. Working right now \u2014 as I’ve been doing for some two years now! \u2014 on the Maghrib anthology. Here are two poems by the Mauritanian poet Djibril Sall<\/strong> (born in the town of Rosso in 1939), translated from Sall’s French this morning.<\/p>\n

HAIRE M\u2019BAR<\/strong><\/p>\n

Furrow of fertile earth
\nAttack of balanitis thorn on fire tongue;
\nInnocent child\u2019s hand on an millet ear
\nIn morning\u2019s neckline;
\nBlue sky
\nSetting sun to the sound of DOUGA<\/p>\n

Yesterday it was CAS-CAS in dirt and blood
\nSIMBARADJI is dust and sweat
\nToday HAIRE M\u2019BAR in honor and pride<\/p>\n

Let my pen<\/em><\/strong>
\ngather the pollen
\nfrom SPIRIT\u2019S flower:
\nFree is my heart
\nFree my thought,
\nOh the celestial palette!
\nrime fetters me
\nthe quatrain torments me
\nthe caesura sections me
\nthe alexandrian fences me in:<\/p>\n
