There\u2019s something provocative in Tadao Ando\u2019s remark that \u201carchitecture is in dialogue with geometry\u201d \u2013 an emphatic seconding of his constant interest in maintaining a dialogue with architecture\u2019s past. But while maintaining a dialogue with architecture\u2019s past sounds like a straightforward objective you learned in your professional training by studying architectural history, there\u2019s something rather abstract in \u201cmaintaining a dialogue with geometry.\u201d Have you discussed design issues with a right-angle lately while your colleagues chatted about erratic cash flow? This initially sounds like Louis Kahn\u2019s mystical, poetically lyrical way of suggesting that architects dialogue with an arch and the bricks composing it. Meaning:\u00a0impractical<\/em>. And in the era of computerized design, isn\u2019t the very notion of\u00a0directly <\/em>conversing with geometry quaint if not bizarre?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
