As I am thinking about what I can say about translation in 5 minutes for the opening panel of the Translation Symposium here<\/a> at the University of Georgia (Athens) later today, I get an email from Charlotte Mandell, sending me to a splendid interview on translation she gave to Greta Aart <\/b>and just published by the Emprise Review. <\/b>Read it here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And here as hors d’oeuvre<\/span> a poem by the French poet, writer and translator Auxem\u00e9ry translated by Charlotte Mandell (also in that same Review):<\/div>\n

Ibn Battuta speaks and says<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

I the Moor the Stranger the Shadow<\/span>
on the steps of the known, I visited<\/span>
the violet city and the great wall<\/span><\/p>\n

followed the lines that pronounce the foam<\/span>
of the sea on the shores the most secret<\/span>
the ones most stifled by sun and salt<\/span><\/p>\n
