Also, 25% of book sales during the event will be turned over to him.<\/p>\n<p>&amp; here is Clayton Eshleman&#8217;s poem for the occasion:<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">POEM TO ACCOMPANY WILL ALEXANDER ON HIS QUEST<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Here are some Soutine gladioli to stir your vinegar:<br \/>blood-filled<br \/>hankies grasping at<br \/>the airless black,<br \/>writhe-alive,<br \/>on stems smoke<br \/>frail, out of a<br \/>toad<br \/>of a bowl.<\/p>\n<p>I know something about your shadow traps<br \/>having just dropped in at Ypsilanti\u2019s cephalopod brothel.<br \/>A cockatoo squid offered to instruct me<br \/>in the nature of what I need to do<br \/>to inject my energy into<br \/>the anchor buried in your navel.<\/p>\n<p>Dear spirit of our wildest gales,<br \/>I sense you as an icicle up the anus of Hell.<br \/>I am sending you a wagon-load of what Anselm Kiefer calls<br \/>the first and the oldest metals of alchemy\u2014lead\u2014<br \/>the least pure, the most ambiguous, of Saturn,<br \/>ground zero of transmutation.<\/p>\n<p>I am also sending you a Mousterian orchestra<br \/>of swallow gabble,<br \/>of mastodon skull drums painted with menstrual crosses,<br \/>of cloud scores crisscrossed by lark arpeggios,<br \/>a nose flute from Les Trois Fr\u00e8res,<br \/>a Siberian hip-bone xylophone.<\/p>\n<p>There is a black Moby Dick cruising America\u2019s white Hadal trenches,<br \/>attached by Oglala Sioux hatchet fish.<br \/>There are black Eshlemans and white Alexanders<br \/>exchanging fission in Aim\u00e9 C\u00e9saire\u2019s coral arsenals.<\/p>\n<p>We must ask the poem for the impossible, locate<br \/>ourselves within this asking, spot<br \/>the Stone of Division, and then attaching ourselves to this Stone<br \/>articulate the amoebic split-off of the divine and the human.<\/p>\n<p>For the imagination is a primordial hourglass of venusian sensuality,<br \/>a kind of double bellows ceaselessly expelling<br \/>(in the words of Lezama Lima):<br \/>\u201cImage is the reality of the invisible world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A bison drops its human embryo into fiery snow.<br \/>Cro-Magnon eyes litter the rune-scape.<br \/>Rising through the tundra are rods of emptiness<br \/>dotted with meditating saints and poets, ping pong balls<br \/>hailing bop<br \/>over the luscious hiss of sin and be.<\/p>\n<p>Why does the clock dial register 6:66 AM?<br \/>Is this a sign that the missing 80% of the cosmos is right around<br \/>the ayahuasca bend? But wait\u2014<br \/>I think I have spotted your gnarl in the rudimentary<br \/>nipple of a bee. Or have I been hypnotized by<br \/>Dionysus on his boar tusk harp chanting<br \/>semen-honey lays?<\/p>\n<p>Your meteorite is moaning in the eel-grass,<br \/>see-sawing through tubeworm prairies.<br \/>They undulate in vertical homage to your holophrastic triadic units,<br \/>your erection-set snap-into-place flowerings,<br \/>your field mouse parachuting between cat-pawed hemispheres.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing, as active subject, is the key.<br \/>Can we agree on that?<br \/>Can we love the soul in all its resurrexit<br \/>end-blessed mess?<br \/>Can we imagine Banisteriopsis vine patterns?<\/p>\n<p>It is out of nothing that, through heat and compression,<br \/>we make our bricks. Our bricks! Which are<br \/>the cosmic equivalents of stars\u2014and the earth?
