He wrote poetry; he co-authered a play with Michel Deutsch, <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Sit venia verbo<\/span>, centered on the tragi-comic figure of Heidegger in the Germany of 1945. He was an immense theater person &#038; a major translator \u2014 we owe him excellent French translations of Holderlin&#8217;s German versions of Sophocles&#8217; <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Oedipus<\/span> &#038;  <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Antigone<\/span>. Philosophe, germaniste, traducteur et homme de th\u00e9\u00e2tre, professeur d&#8217;esth\u00e9tique \u00e0 l&#8217;universit\u00e9 de Strasbourg, il avait 67 ans.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"> <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\" name=\"page\" id=\"page\" class=\"paragraphDoc\"> <strong>Assise. <\/strong>Etait-il venu \u00e0 la philosophie \u00e0 cause de la tr\u00e8s haute id\u00e9e qu&#8217;il se faisait de la litt\u00e9rature, \u00e0 laquelle il se destinait au commencement ? Ou s&#8217;\u00e9tait-il mis \u00e0 l&#8217;\u00e9criture justement \u00e0 travers les accointances de celle-ci avec l&#8217;acte m\u00eame de penser, au moins depuis Platon ? Questions probablement apor\u00e9tiques pour Lacoue-Labarthe et proprement circulaires, qui trouvaient pourtant chez lui une assise, un point de stabilisation dans sa conception, et de la pens\u00e9e et de la litt\u00e9rature, comme des arts de la mise en sc\u00e8ne.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"> <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\" name=\"page\" id=\"page\" class=\"paragraphDoc\">Dans ce th\u00e9\u00e2tre mental dont il est le pi\u00e8tre h\u00e9ros, le sujet moderne se sauve pourtant s&#8217;il parvient \u00e0 franchir indemne l&#8217;\u00e9preuve du langage. Ce combat, chez Lacoue-Labarthe, n&#8217;a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 que m\u00e9taphorique, lorsqu&#8217;on songe que la langue philosophique, qu&#8217;il s&#8217;est agi pour lui de parler et de refuser \u00e0 la fois, n&#8217;est autre que celle de Martin Heidegger. A travers quel \u00e9quilibre instable, entre respect et rejet, peut-on accueillir la grandeur vivifiante de l&#8217;oeuvre tout en continuant \u00e0 se (d\u00e9)battre contre la noirceur \u00e9thique du philosophe allemand ?
