The Poet at Chin\u2019s Mausoleum<\/span><\/p>\n

he loves to watch
images of power
more than images
of love but knows
that both are momentary,
mindless
knows what he sees
& hears
not what he says<\/p>\n

Mao is a copy of Chin
our friend says<\/p>\n

\u2013 he with black beard
& flowing hair \u2013<\/p>\n

the return of privilege,
while the poor fall back<\/p>\n

the more they eat
the more they feel the need
to go on eating<\/p>\n

NOTE. Chin\u2019s (or Qin\u2019s) mausoleum is the center around which the ceramic armies at Xian were buried (& many living workers besides), & \u201cthe field of tombs\u201d is close to Dunhuang & Yang Pass, which Pound mentions as the Gate of Go, & Wang Wei before that: \u201cwest of Yang Pass there will be no friends.\u201d<\/p>\n
