There, taken by imagination and creativity, he began to write and paint, and his work drew the attention and praise of influential critics, Andr\u00e9 Gide and Maurice Blanchot among them. Averse to publicity and public honors, he refused the French Grand Prix National des Lettres in 1965.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Richard Sieburth<\/strong>\u00a0teaches at New York University. His previous versions of Henri Michaux include <em>Emergences\/Resurgences<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Stroke by Stroke<\/em>.
