“Saturday Night”<\/p>\n

Everything matters
\nin suddenly finding what it is
\nto be alive–that completeness.<\/p>\n

It is not only the ecst asy of flesh
\nopened
\nor the touch
\nof earth–<\/p>\n

but at each moment
\nwhat soars
\nat us.<\/p>\n

As on t his bare mesa
\nI turn to escape
\nthe terrible intensity of a party<\/p>\n

& run smack
\nagainst the mountains,<\/p>\n

& the ingredients
\nof the moment
\nloom up as the only things
\nI know.<\/p>\n

“Sunday Afternoon”<\/p>\n

Across this sunlight
\nalmost gone from the afternoon<\/p>\n

the same people as my body
\nwalked all the hundreds of years ago
\nthey lived (were)*. Into this earth
\nthey came,<\/p>\n

and still are alone
\nagainst it. How can I say<\/p>\n

anything except myself myself
\nalone? & yet that<\/p>\n

the ageless turn
\nof this sunlight. The footsteps<\/p>\n

impossible to forget, the people
\nthat might have been here<\/p>\n

God, the love, the love
\nmissing from everything I do.<\/p>\n
