I haven&#8217;t gotten ahold of\u00a0the book yet, but both anthologizers, Yves di Manno &amp; Isabelle Garron, are excellent poet-scholars, so I am confident of their collaboration. Interestingly enough, it would seem that one of the angles from where they go at evaluating the poetry of that time is via the new American post-war poetry. See\u00a0the cover of the book below, making the idea of &#8220;a new world&#8221; &#8220;Un Nouveau Monde&#8221; \u2014 the title of the anthology\u2014 clear via an American (or, maybe they imply&#8230;?) a post-american image.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A limit of the book, also noted by the reviewer in Media-Part, is that it remains confined to &#8220;metropolitan France,&#8221; i.e. does not take into account the vast store of poetries\u00a0produced during those years (years that nearly exactly define post-colonial times as Algeria, the last colony \u2014 though in fact there are still a number of DOM-TOMS, including C\u00e9saire&#8217;s Martinique\u2014 got independence in 1962) in French in the ex-colonies \u2014 for me, among the strongest, if not the strongest French-language poetry of those years. But obviously, any anthology has to delimit its range &amp; there is nothing intrinsically wrong with taking hexagonal France as such a limit. From the reviewers lauds of the inclusion of information and details of the magazine scene in which this work appeared, and from the sheer bulk of the opus \u2014 1,500 pages! \u2014the book is\u00a0indeed very impressive. Can&#8217;t wait to get my hands on it. Intitul\u00e9e sans barguigner <i>Un nouveau monde<\/i>, cette anthologie singuli\u00e8re, provocante \u00e0 bien des \u00e9gards, incite \u00e0 revenir sur les pas que l\u2019on dit perdus de la po\u00e9sie fran\u00e7aise.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px; text-align: justify;\">En intitulant <i>Un nouveau monde <\/i>leur anthologie sur les <i>\u00ab\u00a0po\u00e9sies en France\u00a0\u00bb<\/i> du demi-si\u00e8cle \u00e9coul\u00e9, Yves di\u00a0Manno et Isabelle Garron ne font pas myst\u00e8re de leur intention\u00a0: ils entendent remettre les pas que l\u2019on dit perdus de la po\u00e9sie fran\u00e7aise dans les sillons de celle de langue am\u00e9ricaine. Loin d\u2019un \u00ab\u00a0nouveau monde\u00a0\u00bb empreint de sacralit\u00e9, le lecteur doit s\u2019attendre \u00e0 une initiation profane, moderniste. De fait, les deux auteurs de cette anthologie critique\u00a0postulent dans les arts, et notamment la po\u00e9sie, une <i>\u00ab\u00a0grande r\u00e9volution moderne\u00a0\u00bb<\/i> qui a touch\u00e9 le monde occidental dans son ensemble. Mais la vague form\u00e9e en France \u00e0 partir de Baudelaire, parvenue \u00e0 son fa\u00eete dans les ann\u00e9es 10 et 20 du si\u00e8cle dernier, n\u2019aurait pas eu l\u2019effet escompt\u00e9 en mati\u00e8re de <i>\u00ab\u00a0red\u00e9finition des formes po\u00e9tiques\u00a0\u00bb<\/i>. Car telle est leur conviction profonde\u00a0: \u00e0 trop pr\u00eater l\u2019oreille \u00e0 des voies de communication inou\u00efes entre les \u00eatres, \u00e0 hauteur verbale stratosph\u00e9rique, le mouvement surr\u00e9aliste a emp\u00each\u00e9 la po\u00e9sie fran\u00e7aise de s\u2019enqu\u00e9rir de <i>\u00ab\u00a0formes nouvelles\u00a0\u00bb<\/i>, de<i> \u00ab\u00a0consid\u00e9rer le langage dans sa densit\u00e9 mat\u00e9rielle\u00a0\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px; text-align: justify;\">Si l\u2019ouvrage de ces deux arpenteurs d\u2019<i>Un nouveau monde<\/i> pour la po\u00e9sie, associant de fa\u00e7on assez in\u00e9dite la tr\u00e8s attendue recension anthologique \u00e0 une approche par les \u0153uvres, peut \u00eatre contest\u00e9 en raison de son orientation formaliste, forc\u00e9ment exclusive, il n\u2019en m\u00e9rite pas moins la plus grande attention des lecteurs de po\u00e9sie. D\u2019une part au regard de la d\u00e9mesure de ce projet\u00a0: couvrir un demi-si\u00e8cle de \u00ab\u00a0po\u00e9sies\u00a0\u00bb entre 1960 et 2010, en concoctant une sorte de bilan avec pertes et profits, voil\u00e0 qui ne manque pas de piquer la curiosit\u00e9. D\u2019autre part, parce qu\u2019\u00e9tant eux-m\u00eames des acteurs impliqu\u00e9s, les auteurs font pr\u00e9valoir sur toute autre consid\u00e9ration les pratiques des po\u00e8tes, seraient-elles discutables.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px; text-align: justify;\">Par ses gloses explicatives, ses nombreux essais de situation, des auteurs ou des revues, voire ses impasses \u00e0 demi avou\u00e9es, ce livre dispense quelques cl\u00e9s de compr\u00e9hension sur la po\u00e9sie telle qu\u2019elle s\u2019est \u00e9crite \u00ab\u00a0en France\u00a0\u00bb. Et c\u2019est en soi remarquable, m\u00eame si l\u2019ensemble des pratiques et des sensibilit\u00e9s reste difficile \u00e0 articuler. Car force est de constater que pour tout viatique \u00e9ditorial, la po\u00e9sie est devenue, de tous les arts, celui qui se cantonne et c\u00e8de le plus volontiers \u00e0 cette <i>\u00ab\u00a0tentation anthologique\u00a0\u00bb<\/i> relev\u00e9e, et justement critiqu\u00e9e, par l\u2019historien de la litt\u00e9rature <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/William_Marx\" target=\"_blank\">William Marx<\/a>. Ainsi, depuis les derni\u00e8res d\u00e9cennies du XX<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle \u00e9coul\u00e9, aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s d\u2019ouvrages classiques d\u2019histoire litt\u00e9raire, on ne compte plus les anthologies consacr\u00e9es \u00e0 la po\u00e9sie fran\u00e7aise dont l\u2019esprit de d\u00e9couverte est masqu\u00e9 par un exercice d\u2019autoc\u00e9l\u00e9bration.
