{"id":13860,"date":"2015-11-30T09:06:48","date_gmt":"2015-11-30T13:06:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pierrejoris.com\/blog\/?p=13860"},"modified":"2015-11-30T08:50:27","modified_gmt":"2015-11-30T12:50:27","slug":"a-poem-for-paris-climate-talks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pierrejoris.com\/blog\/a-poem-for-paris-climate-talks\/","title":{"rendered":"A Poem For The Paris Climate Talks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Listening to the opening ceremonies of the Paris talks on French radio on this pre-dawn\u00a0morning, I remembered a poem I wrote years ago, & want to repost here today:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>[Intro\u00eft to my Purgatory]<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">the biggest lie is<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span class=\"s1\"> that we were kicked out<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span class=\"s1\"> of Paradise<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><br \/>\nno one kicked us out of<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span class=\"s1\"> Paradise. No one. Not<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span class=\"s1\"> even ourselves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><br \/>\nWe did. We did besmirch<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span class=\"s1\"> the place. Shat on the floor<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span class=\"s1\"> of paradise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><br \/>\nWe did. This is the truth. We did<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span class=\"s1\"> not get kicked out <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span class=\"s1\"> of Paradise. We turned<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><br \/>\nagainst paradise, the place we<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span class=\"s1\"> have always lived in.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span class=\"s1\"> The only place we have<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><br \/>\nand which therefore has to be<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span class=\"s1\"> Paradise. We have<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span class=\"s1\"> no other, garden or<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><br \/>\ncity, steppe or town. This here<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span class=\"s1\"> is Paradise. This<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span class=\"s1\"> now. We have shat on.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><br \/>\nNo one kicked us out. No one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span class=\"s1\"> Call him Noone. Noone<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span class=\"s1\"> is to blame.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><br \/>\nWe shat all over the place.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span class=\"s1\"> Noone cleaned it up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span class=\"s1\"> Noone is to blame.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">And to reiterate what I quoted yesterday on FB from a Naomi Klein and Jason Box article\u00a0in the New Yorker:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cA climate summit taking place against the backdrop of climate-fuelled violence and migration can only be relevant if its central goal is the creation of conditions for lasting peace. That would mean making legally enforceable commitments to leave the vast majority of known fossil-fuel reserves in the ground.
