Both are great modernizers in their language, Kumaran Asan in Malayalam and Adonis in Arabic, and share a spontaneous urge for freedom and social reformation without compromising traditional values.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The poet, born\u00a0Ali Ahmad Saidi Esber in 1930, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailystar.com.lb\/Arts-and-Ent\/Culture\/2015\/Apr-02\/292982-adonis-on-giving-freedom-to-his-hands.ashx\">spoke with\u00a0Olivia Snaije <\/a>the night before his art show opened and a week before he won the Kumaran Asan prize. Adonis calls his visual work \u201craqima,\u201d Snaije says, \u201cfrom \u2018raqama,\u2019 which he says means to write and color simultaneously.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Calligraphy, Adonis told Snaije, is tiring, \u201clike everything that is beautiful is tiring. It\u2019s not easy.
