But then, on New Year\u2019s Day, he was re-arrested.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Last February, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jadaliyya.com\/pages\/index\/16426\/one-hundred-arab-intellectuals-demand-the-release\">a hundred Arab writers and thinkers signed a petition<\/a> condemning \u201cthese acts of intimidation targeting Ashraf Fayadh as part of a wider campaign inciting hate against writers and using Islam to justify oppression and to crush free speech.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Many <a href=\"http:\/\/advocacy.globalvoicesonline.org\/2014\/01\/28\/saudi-arabia-jails-palestinian-poet-for-atheism-and-long-hair\/\">Saudis and others expressed solidarity on<\/a>\u00a0Twitter.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But after an initial hubbub around Fayadh\u2019s arrest, there has largely been silence. In an effort to raise the volume again, activist-scholar Mona Kareem has started a translation movement. Emirati commentator Sultan Sooud al-Qassemi has translated the first section, \u201cAsylum\u201d from Fayadh\u2019s\u00a0<em>Instructions Within<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Asylum: To stand at the end of a queue..<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To be given a morsel of bread.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To stand!: Something your grandfather used to do.. Without knowing the reason why.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Morsel?: You.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The homeland: A card to put in your wallet.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Money: Papers that carry images of Leaders.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Photo: Your substitution pending your return.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">And the Return: A mythological creature \u2026 from your grandmother\u2019s tales.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">End of the\u00a0first lesson.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:
