Ahmad Diab, from the poet&#8217;s\u00a0<i>East of Aden, West of God.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jadaliyya.com\/pages\/index\/17958\/muhammad-al-maghut_roman-amphitheaters\">&#8220;Roman Amphitheaters&#8221;<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><b>Mohammed al-Ajami<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Qatari poet, serving a 15-year sentence at Doha Central Prison for \u201cinciting the overthrow of the ruling regime\u201d and \u201ccriticizing the Emir\u201d in two of his poems, managed to record and send out a poem from prison last month. It&#8217;s been translated by Kareem James Abu-Zeid.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pen.org\/poetry\/poem-prison-cell\">&#8220;Poem from a Prison Cell&#8221;<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><b>Ahmed Matar<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The new website &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/polarabicpoetry.tumblr.com\/\"><span class=\"s2\">Political Arabic Poetry<\/span><\/a>&#8221; promises that,\u00a0over the course of the next few weeks, they will be releasing a collection of nine English translations of poems originally written in Arabic, featuring works by Amal Dunqul, Ahmed Fuad Negm, Ahmed Matar, Mahmoud Darwish, and Sayyid Qutb. (The last one&#8217;s a bit of a curveball, but okay.) The project begins with Matar:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/polarabicpoetry.tumblr.com\/post\/87988911641\/people-of-exile-by-ahmed-matar\">People of Exile<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><b>Tareq al-Karmy<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The<i> New Statesman\u00a0<\/i>has published two poems by al-Karmy, trans. Liz Lochhead.
