Tolkien\u2019s Middle-earth, Rowling\u2019s Hogwarts, the dystopic universe of \u201cThe Hunger Games,\u201d the places where vampires and zombies prowl: These places are having their day. Yet in spite of the vogue for fantasy fiction, in the finest of literature\u2019s fictional microcosms there is more truth than fantasy. In William Faulkner\u2019s Yoknapatawpha, R. K.
