Dialogues continue through the translation, publication, and adaptation of contemporary French poetry in the U.S.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u00a0Organized by Vincent Broqua (UPEC) and Emmanuel Ertel (NYU), the afternoon\u2019s discussions highlight the current state of such crucial relations: French and American poets, translators, and publishers speak about the art of translating French and Francophone contemporary poetry, about the publishing houses circulating French poetry in the U.S., and about the importance of French poetry for contemporary American poetry. The French poets will be translated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0&#8230;..<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Pierre Alf\u00e9ri<\/b>\u00a0is a French poet and novelist.\u00a0<i>OXO<\/i>\u00a0(Burning Deck, 2004) and\u00a0<i>Natural Gails\u00a0<\/i>(Sun and Moon, 1995)\u00a0were translated by Cole Swensen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Charles Bernstein<\/b>\u00a0is a poet, essayist, editor, and literary scholar. He is Donald T. Regan Professor at the University of Pennsylvania. He has played an important role in fostering French contemporary poetry and his work has been translated in France. His last book,\u00a0<i>Recalculating<\/i>,contains translations and adaptations of French poetry.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Vincent Broqua<\/b>\u00a0is Associate Professor at Universit\u00e9 de Paris Est. He teaches North American poetry and art.\u00a0<i>A partir de rien: esth\u00e9tique, po\u00e9tique et politique de l&#8217;infime<\/i>\u00a0(Michel Houdiard) was published in 2013. Broqua has translated Thalia Field, Anne Waldman, and Christian Hawkey. In 2000,\u00a0 he created Double Change with Olivier Brossard.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Emmanuelle Ertel<\/b>\u00a0is Clinical Associate Professor in NYU\u2019s Department of French, where she directs the M.A. program in Literary Translation. She has translated numerous American novelists into French, including Rick Moody, Tom Perrott,\u00a0and Louis Begley. Her book,\u00a0<i>La Maison des mots, r\u00e9flexions autour de\u00a0<\/i>Carpenter&#8217;s Gothic<i>\u00a0de William Gaddis,<\/i>\u00a0was published in 2000.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Tracy Grinnell<\/b>\u00a0is a poet and publisher. She created Litmus Press and the journal\u00a0<i>Aufgabe<\/i>, which focuses on translation. In 2013, Litmus Press published\u00a0<i>Murder<\/i>, Danielle Collobert&#8217;s first novel, translated by Nathana\u00ebl.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Pierre Joris<\/b>\u00a0is a poet, translator, and anthologist. He was Professor at SUNY Albany. With Jerome Rothenberg,\u00a0 he edited the acclaimed\u00a0<i>Poems for the Millennium: The University of California Book of Modern &amp; Postmodern Poetry.<\/i>\u00a0Recently he translated and published poets from the Maghreb in\u00a0<i>Poems for the Millennium. The University of California Book of North African Poetry.<\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Anne Portugal<\/b>\u00a0is a French poet.\u00a0<i>Absolute Bob<\/i>\u00a0was translated by Jennifer Moxley,\u00a0<i>The quisite Moment<\/i>\u00a0was translated by Rosmarie Waldrop, and<i>Flirt Formula<\/i>\u00a0was translated by Jean-Jacques Poucel and published by Cole Swensen with La Presse Books.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Cole Swensen<\/b>\u00a0is a professor at Brown University. She is a poet and translator. As publisher, she created La Presse Books, dedicated to the translation of French contemporary poetry (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lapressepoetry.com\/\">http:\/\/www.lapressepoetry.com\/<\/a>). She has translated many works by French poets, including<i>OXO<\/i>\u00a0(Burning Deck, 2004) and\u00a0<i>Natural Gails\u00a0<\/i>(Sun and Moon, 1995) by\u00a0Pierre Alferi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Double Change<\/b>\u00a0is a Franco-American collective.
