Marcy Qualey just posted the info on her <em><strong>Arab Literature (in English)<\/strong><\/em> blog, which I am copying here:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.5em;\">Lebanese writer and painter\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lorientlejour.com\/article\/852942\/etel-adnan-chevalier-des-arts-et-des-lettres.html\">Etel Adnan has been named a\u00a0Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters<\/a>\u00a0by the French government, a distinction she shares with artists as varied as\u00a0Terry Gilliam, Shakira, Tim Burton, Elif Shafak, Jude Law, and Philip Glass:<\/em><\/p>\n<section><a href=\"http:\/\/arablit.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/02\/etel_adnan_painting.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Photo by Simone Fattal\" data-src=\"http:\/\/arablit.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/02\/etel_adnan_painting.jpg?w=450&amp;h=203\" width=\"300\" height=\"134\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/134;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Photo by Simone Fattal<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eteladnan.com\/\">Adnan<\/a>, born in 1925, received the award at a ceremony at the Arab World Institute in Paris at the end of January, where the poet, novelist, essayist, and visual artist was given the insignia of Chevalier of Arts and Letters by former French Minister of Culture Jack Lang.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Adnan is perhaps best known for her classic war novel\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.archipelago.org\/vol7-2\/adnan.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Sitt Marie Rose<\/a><\/em>, which won the \u201cFrance-Pays Arabes\u201d award and has been translated into more than ten languages,\u00a0and her\u00a0<em>In the Heart of the Heart of Another Country,\u00a0<\/em>but she has numerous other collections of poetry, as well as\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/arablit.wordpress.com\/2012\/09\/24\/two-views-of-etel-adnans-crime-of-honor\/\">theatrical<\/a>\u00a0and other writings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile, Adnan\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kelseyst.com\/news\/2014\/02\/04\/press-release-premonition-by-etel-adnan-forthcoming-in-march-2014\/\"><em>Premonition,\u00a0<\/em>her most recent book, is due out in March 2014.<\/a>\u00a0According to the publisher: \u201c<em>Premonition<\/em>\u00a0is a short book that refuses finality in a world of contingencies and human unpredictability.
