I’ll be in conversation with Al Filreis concerning what I consider the very often oversimplified views of the experience of Khurbn<\/strong> \u2014 to use Jerome Rothenberg’s “dark word” which I prefer to either “holocaust” or “Shoa” \u2014 in the life & work of Paul Celan.<\/em><\/p>\n

Pierre Joris<\/strong> is the author of over 40 books. As one of the foremost translators of avant-garde poetry into both French and English, he frequently explores the lesser-known works of both major and obscure experimental poets. His translations include\u00a0Exile is My Trade: A Habib Tengour Reader<\/em>\u00a0(Black Widow Press, 2012);\u00a0Paul Celan: Selections<\/em>\u00a0(University of California Press, 2005);\u00a04X1: Works by Tristan Tzara, Rainer Maria Rilke, Jean-Pierre Duprey, and Habib Tengour<\/em>\u00a0(Inconundrum Press, 2003); and\u00a0pppppp: Kurt Schwitters Poems, Performance, Pieces, Proses, Plays, Poetics<\/em>\u00a0(Temple University Press, 1994). Of his translations of Paul Celan, poet Michael Palmer said: “Joris has dwelled during the better part of his life in Celan’s words and silences\u2026he has journeyed through the work’s intricacies like very few others.” Joris’ From Breathturn to Timestead: The Collected Later poetry of Paul Celan<\/em> will be published by FSG in late 2014.<\/p>\n
