Left in 1970; is stilled missed. But we have the work. Here is one of the first poems of his I translated back in 1968, the year after <em>Atemwende \/ Breathturn<\/em>, the volume from which it is taken, came out:<\/p>\n<p>Eroded by<br \/>\nthe beamwind of your speech<br \/>\nthe gaudy chatter of the pseudo-<br \/>\nexperienced \u2014 the hundred-<br \/>\ntongued perjury-<br \/>\npoem, the noem.<\/p>\n<p>Evorsion-<br \/>\ned,<br \/>\nfree<br \/>\nthe path through the men-<br \/>\nshaped snow,<br \/>\nthe penitent&#8217;s snow, to<br \/>\nthe hospitable<br \/>\nglacier-parlors and -tables.<\/p>\n<p>Deep<br \/>\nin the timecrevasse<br \/>\nin the<br \/>\nhoneycomb-ice<br \/>\nwaits, a breathcrystal,<br \/>\nyour unalterable<br \/>\ntestimony.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230; born today, 23 November, 93 years ago, i.e. in \u00a01920.
